I'd love to get to know you two and that glorious-as-heck love you share. If you choose me to lock down your love, I'll weave your love story into your ceremony and share it with your most favourite people on the planet. There may be tears, there may be that kinda laughter where you let out a snort. I'm here for it all.

I promise not to stand up there and quote 17th-century poetry or explain the definition of marriage according to Oxford, (snoozeville). I'll talk about YOU TWO, and that raw, silly, glorious, messy, true love that sets your heart on fire. How imperfectly perfect it is. How lucky you are to have found YOUR WEIRDO in this big wide world.

About me

Who’s Moo?

I’m Amanda Jarrett, or ‘Moo’ thanks to a childhood nickname that I never really seemed to shake. I’ve been in the media industry for 14 years in Darwin, hosting breakfast radio and television programs, MC’ing charity events, food festivals, gala balls and corporate events. I run my own biz called Moo Media and have been a News Presenter for Territory Local News. Also super proud to be a Cancer Council NT ambassador and the Territory Health Fund ambassador.

I am newly married to a pretty epic man that often moonlights as my roadie (what a darl) and together, we share the love of a very naughty and overfed Blue American Staffy called Bronx.

I live for pasta, good wine and great company.

I love love so much I’ve decided to make a career out of it and after completing the Certificate IV in Celebrancy, I’m stoked to say I’m duly authorised by law to get you hitched and hitched good.

What’s included:

Preparation and lodgement of all legal documentation including the Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM), Final Declaration of No Legal Impediment to Marriage, the Marriage Certificates and Marriage Register.

Creation of your personalised love story and ceremony, plus full use of my resource kit which includes inspiration for personal vows, amazing rituals, readings (for family or other guests to read in your ceremony). – The possibilities are endless and as long as its legal and respectful, I’ll do it!

Delivery of your ceremony to your most favourite people in the world, with over a decade of public speaking experience so it's crisp clear, even for Uncle Barry way in the back.

Use of my awesome, high quality, professional portable PA system, with wireless microphones, and MP3 input (for your smartphone) to play music before and after your ceremony.

My arrival of at least 30 minutes before your ceremony start time (to ensure PA is set up, tested and all is in place and ready to go) dressed appropriately for your wedding style / theme and always neatly presented.

Face to face meetings and unlimited phone and email consultation for your support.

Much like a wedding without the legal paperwork. A ceremony will still be written, friends and family can get involved and it can be as big or little as you see fit.

Renewing your vows is just the best. So romantic. I encourage people to renew the promise they made whenever they can!

Maybe you’ve made it to 2, 5, 10 or 50 years together, what a way to reaffirm your love for each other than having your closest watch you say your vows to each other one more time.

This is perfect for non-religious families or folks just wanting to celebrate the arrival and naming of their gorgeous new addition to the fam. Usually held at the same time as a 1st birthday party but I’m always happy to do them at earlier or later stages in the child’s life.

A ceremony is written which can include beautiful songs, explanation of the meaning of the baby’s name, readings from what’s commonly known as god parents or guardian angels. All that cool stuff. Pretty special.

Roughly 10 years ago I announced on my radio show (back in Hot 100 days) that I wanted to become a celebrant. I started applying for what was then a 3-day face to face course in Melbourne (it’s now a 900 hour, 12 month course! Nice going Amanda. Ha!)

One of my best friends, (a brilliant person that happens to be gay), was upset he couldn’t legally marry his partner. My heart broke seeing how they were being treated different in the eyes of the law, especially when they were and still are now, SO, SO deeply in love.

I also had a cousin that hated how archaic this law was and was crushed to think she’d never marry the woman of her dreams.

So I took a stand and refused to continue with my Celebrant course until SAME SEX MARRIAGE WAS LEGALISED – Love is love and I vow to celebrate it in ALL forms. Little did I know it would take another 9 years for us to be able to vote for LOVE to win.

I am so proud now to be able to stand up there and say MARRIAGE, according to law in Australia, isn’t the union of a MAN and a WOMAN to the exclusion of all others, but the union of TWO PEOPLE to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.

Just how it always should have been. Love wins, baby.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ What are the Legal Requirements to Marry in Australia?

The following legal requirements are a must for a marriage conducted by a registered marriage celebrant to be considered legal in Australia:

You are required to have two witnesses at the ceremony who are at least 18 years of age to sign the certificates and register with you.
Both parties must be at least 18 years of age. (With the exception of Section 12 from The Marriage Act 1961).
You must sign a declaration to state that there are no legal impediments to the marriage, (for example, being married to someone else with no divorce finalised, the bride and groom being too closely related etc.)
A Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) must be lodged with your celebrant no less than one month and no earlier than 18 months before your ceremony. (With the exception of Section 42 (5) of The Marriage Act 1961 - A ‘Shortening of Time’ may be applied for under the right circumstances and must be approved by a Prescribed Authority. Ask me how.)
There are also 4 things that MUST be said during the ceremony: I must always introduce myself, the couple’s full names must be said at least once, the Monitum must be said, and the legal vows must be recited.

+ How do we complete the NOIM?

You must show your original (not photocopied) birth certificate, extract of birth OR Passport.
If you have been married previously, you must show your Divorce Decree Absolute or Death Certificate of your previous spouse.

+ Do we really need a rehearsal?

YES! I strongly recommend this for the couple, the bridal party and whoever else is involved in the ceremony (doing a reading etc) to attend a rehearsal 1 week before the wedding, at the venue (if feasible) at the time of the ceremony. This is to check weather, ie if the sun will be in anyone eyes at the time of ceremony or for any last minute changes. This helps with nerves big time – even just to feel more confident about the choreography for the bridal party so there’s nothing left to do on the big day but to enjoy yourselves!

+ Why does it matter what celebrant we hire? We just want a cheap one.

Ah yes, a mistake often made. It’s sad how many couples look back and wish they had someone more full of life, spoke clearer, was warmer to your guests, or even knew the options they had for a ceremony before it’s too late.

I don’t just ‘stand up the front and talk for 20 minutes’, when we sign on together, an average of 20 hours is spent per wedding. The legal paperwork, face to face meetings, the creative writing for your ceremony and the hours of communication with you all adds up.

I’ll do whatever it takes to ensure you have the BEST, bespoke ceremony and experience, engaging with all of your guests, sharing with you all the possibilities and you’ll know then, that you don’t ‘just want the cheap one’ :)
